Frequently Asked Questions
When are your Sunday worship services?
We offer two worship services year-round, at 9:00 and 10:30 a.m. every Sunday morning.
How should I dress?
Many people at New Hope Church dress casually. Even our pastor usually doesn't wear a tie! If you prefer to dress more formally, you are welcome to do that also. We believe that God is far more concerned with what's on the inside than what's on the outside, so don't be overly concerned with how you are dressed.
What is your worship like?
We offer two worship experiences each Sunday. Choose the style and the time that best suits you:
- 9:00 a.m. Contemporary Worship
Music is led by a Praise Team, including singers, keyboard, guitar, bass, and drums. The music is contemporary in style. The congregation sings about six praise songs each week. The words to the songs are projected on screens. Holy Communion is served the first Sunday of each month.
- 10:30 a.m. Worship
Led by the Praise Choir, we use a blend of contemporary and more traditional music at this service. The congregation sings hymns each week from both the hymn book and from words projected on screens. Holy Communion is served every week.
We encourage you to pick the style of worship that is most meaningful to you. The music varies somewhat, but both services are warm, friendly, and vibrant in spirit. The pastor's message (or sermon) is identical at each service, and usually lasts about 15 minutes. The message will relate the truths found in the Bible to our everyday lives, and will usually include a few stories to help illustrate these truths.
When is communion served in worship? Can I join in?
Jesus had a last supper that was a deeply spiritual experience. Christians regularly share in a remembrance of this meal, and call it "Holy Communion." Everyone is welcome to participate in communion - members and visitors alike. Your children are also welcome to participate. We offer communion on the first Sunday of every month at our 9:00 a.m. worship, and every week at our 10:30 a.m. worship.
How long are the worship services?
Our worship celebrations are about 60 minutes in length. We have time for fellowship before and after worship, and you are welcome to stay a little longer and make new friends.
What can you tell me about the Methodist Church?
The United Methodist Church is the third largest Christian group in the country, behind Catholics and Southern Baptists. There are 38,000 United Methodist congregations in the U.S. Worldwide, there are 70 million Methodist Christians. In the Green Bay area, there are nine United Methodist congregations. For more information about the United Methodist Church, see our denomination's website at umc.org. To find out more about what United Methodists believe, check out unitedmethodist.org.
Is New Hope open to people with a non-Methodist background?
Absolutely! New Hope is open to people of a variety of religious backgrounds, or even no religious background. You may have never attended a church in your life or, maybe you grew up in a church, but haven't been active for a long time. Or, maybe you are new to the Green Bay/De Pere area, and are looking for a church home. Whatever your background, we want to welcome you warmly, help you to grow in your faith, and reach out in service alongside you.
Where does your church meet?
Our church is located at 1950 Dickinson Road, just four blocks east of (East) De Pere High School and only minutes from Green Bay. (Dickinson Road is also called Chicago Street and County Highway G.) Click here for a map. We have a lot of space for a new congregation - over 6,000 square feet! However, we also have our eye on the future, and we are already designing a much larger facility, which will be constructed on our current site.
When will the church move to a bigger building?
We will have to build it first! We own several acres of land in the De Pere area. We are in the early stages of designing our future church home. We hope to move into our new and even larger church building within a couple years. In the meantime, we have several thousand square feet in our current building, which is larger than many congregations.
Is the church building wheelchair-accessible?
Yes. Our facility is on a ground floor, and is wheelchair-friendly. Our restrooms are newly renovated, and are fully accessible. The future church building that we are designing will also be completely accessible to wheelchairs.
